Ghanshyam Sarda – The Calcutta based Philanthropist!

Most of us might not be aware of this mighty businessman, with a business turnover of 2000cr , a bengali, a true Indian, and a man of real honour. Today let’s find out some interesting history and facts about the person, and how he worked day and night to achieve this height for his Sarda group of Industries.

Mr. Ghanshyam Sarda is a Calcutta based businessman who is the Chairman of the 2,000 crore turnover Sarda Group and is better known in the jute industry for reviving as many as 9 sick and ailing jute mills in and around Calcutta. The Sardas control about 25 percent of the jute market. With a workforce of over 50,000 in West Bengal, the Sarda Group is one of West Bengal's largest employers. The Group, which currently has under its ambit eight jute mills which together produce 500 tonnes of jute products daily, has set up a jute mill in Alwar, Rajasthan, at an estimated investment of Rs 100 crore.

According to Mr Ghanshyam Sarda, the jute industry was faced with a shortage of skilled manpower. Even so, the 100-year-old industry had not yet been able to set up a proper training centre that could impart education and technical skills to people seeking employment in the jute industry.

Hence,Sarda Group has firmed up plans to set up a training centre for unskilled workers in the jute industry.From advanced training in jute production and shop floor processes and applications, workers would be trained to improve their employability in the jute industry. To begin with, 100 people would be trained for a period of six months. Over the coming years, around 1,000 would be engaged in the training process. According to Mr Sarda, if the experiment proved successful, the group would set up more such training centres in other parts of the State.

Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mr. Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee hands over land deed for setting up Vision Computech, a call center in the city, by Mr. Ghanshyam Sarda. Mr. Sarda believes that this project is going to boost up Information Technology enabled services (ITES) in West Bengal.

With more and more common people being profited by his innovative moves, in 2006, many of his enemies tried to defame him, relating to many sort of scandals, but all of their mouth were shoutdown when the supreme court found him Non-related to every of this rumours and the court ordered strict penalty against people spreading rumours to defame anyone. After that, there was never a single look back for Mr Ghanshyam Sarda, and his industries. Today with a valuation of more that 2000cr, Sarda group of Industries stand as one of the most prestigious groups of the country.
