Paul The Cctopus: Dead!!

Paul the celebrity octopus, who became famous during the football World Cup earlier this year in South Africa with his 'match predictions', has died. A statement released today by the aquarium in Oberhausen, a town in Germany, where Paul lived, and reported by various agencies said the so-called psychic octopus had passed away in the night. Paul was discovered dead in his enclosure today. Management and staff of the aquarium were said to be devastated by the discovery.

Paul shot to fame by correctly predicting the outcome of Germany's league matches as well as their knockout games. He became world famous after he correctly predicted a German win in the round of 16 against Argentina. Germany routed the Argentines 4-0. The octopus then picked Germany for the quarter-final against England, which game the Germans won in controversial fashion with a stinging goal by midfielder Frank Lampard being disallowed because neither the referee nor his assistant saw that the ball bounced behind the goal-line. Paul, however, also made a lot of enemies, particularly in his native Germany and in The Netherlands, for 'predicting' their defeats in the semifinals and final, respectively, both to Spain.
