Cannibal Holocaust (1980) – English Movie Torrent

Posted: 28 Jan 2011 03:09 AM PST

Cannibal Holocaust is a 1980 Italian exploitation film directed by Ruggero Deodato from a screenplay by Gianfranco Clerici. Filmed in the Amazon Rainforest and dealing with indigenous tribes, it was cast mostly with United States actors and filmed in English to achieve wider distribution. Francesca Ciardi and Luca Barbareschi were among the leads as native Italian speakers to qualify the film as European for distribution on the Continent. Cannibal Holocaust achieved notability because its graphic violence aroused controversy. After its premiere in Italy, it was seized by a local magistrate, and Deodato was arrested on obscenity charges. He was charged with making a snuff film, due to rumors that some actors were killed on camera. Although Deodato was later cleared, the film was banned in Italy, the UK, Australia, and several other countries due to its graphic depiction of violence, sexual violence, and the slaughter of six animals. Some nations have since revoked the ban, but the film is still barred in several countries. The critic David Carter suggests the film is a commentary about civilized society.

Filmed in the Amazon Rainforest, the movie tells the story of the search for a documentary film crew who had gone to film indigenous tribes and been missing for two months. A second team, headed by the New York anthropologist Harold Monroe, recovers their lost cans of film and learns their fate. Much of the film is the portrayal of the recovered films’ content; the sections of “documentary” film function similarly to a flashback and grows increasingly disturbing as the film progresses.

Bong Upcoming Actor Sayantani Guhathakurta

Posted: 27 Jan 2011 10:58 PM PST

“It would be deceptive to say that it doesn’t at all exist in reality. But one should not point fingers at just the entertainment industry,” says Sayantani.

— Interview with TOI —

Was acting a conscious decision?

No, it happened purely by chance. I trained in classical dance under Thankamani Kutty’s gharana and now have a dance troupe of my own called Adrika. I would travel a lot for our shows. It was in one of these shows that I happened to get noticed, after which I was offered to take part in a fashion show. What followed were billboard ads and ad films for jewellery lines and boutiques. In between, I also took part in a beauty pageant ending up as the runner up in it. Then Manas Basu offered me a role in his next flick, Tollywood Focus that has Swastika Mukherjee and Amitabh Bhattacharjee in the lead.

Tell us more about the role you play in the film…

In the film, I play the second lead. I’m cast opposite Anirban Das, who is also a newcomer. The story of the film revolves around him. His role is that of a struggling young actor aspiring to make it big in the industry and I play his girlfriend. He is very protective about her (Tania) and opposes the idea of her joining the industry because of the various odds that exist. But since the girl is inherently ambitious, at the end she does get exploited.

Now, that’s about reel life. What happens in reality? Do such hazards exist?

It would be deceptive to say that it doesn’t at all exist in reality. But one should not point fingers at just the entertainment industry. Today, there is exploitation everywhere. But again, I believe that a person who is good, has a positive attitude and the right potential will certainly be able to make his/ her mark.

How open were your parents initially to the idea of choosing such a career?

I lost my father when I was really young but my mother was really sceptical about the idea. After I did my masters in Political Science and completed my fashion designing course, she wanted me to sit for WBCS exams. It was then that I got this offer to do commercials and I finally managed to convince her. But she gave me just a year’s time to prove myself or switch over to something else.

Any other projects in the pipeline?

Yes. I’ve already been cast in Jeet and Swastika starrer film to be directed by Kumar Monojit.

Any mega serials?

Nothing at the moment as I have been asked to not sign any new projects till Tollywood Focus is released so that I can be launched as a fresh face. I have even asked to cut down on commercials and ad films as too much of exposure could reduce curiosity.
